|DHEA is your body’s most abundant circulating hormone. 7-Keto® DHEA is a natural metabolite of DHEA which is ideal for weight management. Supplementing for healthy DHEA levels can help support immune function, circulatory health, mood and well-being, healthy body weight and lean muscle mass, libido, and more. DHEA Complete delivers both regular DHEA (25 mg) and 7-Keto® DHEA (100 mg), plus antioxidant extracts from curcumin, green tea, Japanese knotweed, and whole red grapes because of the effect 7-Keto® has in boosting mitochondrial oxidation.
Benefits at a Glance
Supplementing for healthy DHEA levels can also help support immune function, circulatory health, mood and well-being, libido, and more. With BOTH forms of this unique nutrient, DHEA complete gives you the powerful benefits of DHEA and DHEA 7-Keto® in one formula.
7-Keto® DHEA Metabolite
The body’s production of 7-Keto® DHEA declines with age. This is important because 7-Keto® DHEA has been shown to safely promote thermogenesis (the process of producing cellular energy in the form of heat), support fat loss and help maintain healthy body weight when combined with diet and exercise.
More about DHEA
Peak blood levels of DHEA occur at approximately age 25, decreasing progressively thereafter.1 Maintaining healthy, youthful serum levels of DHEA has a variety of health benfits.1-4 Thousands of studies have been published on DHEA’s various benefits, including immunomodulatory properties as well as positive effects on mood, quality of life, and body composition. Rejuvenating the circulating levels of DHEA to those found in young people may improve overall well-being and sexual function as well.
Body composition, mood, and more
In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, ten months of DHEA replacement therapy showed enhanced increases in muscle mass and strength resulting from resistance exercise in elderly individuals.4 Other studies of DHEA regimens in women suggest beneficial effects on well-being, mood, and sexuality.5 Studies show DHEA may improve mood and alleviate melancholy,6 and may also benefit the aging brain.7-9
Cardio, circulatory, and structural health
DHEA has the capacity to improve vascular health by a number of complex processes.10-12 One of them is increasing nitric oxide synthesis.10 DHEA has also been shown to support a healthy circulatory system and joint/bone health.10-14 In a randomized, double-blind, controlled trial, one year of DHEA supplementation helped protect hip bone mineral density in older adults and spine bone mineral density in older women.15
DHEA usage and safety precautions
Life Extension’s DHEA directions for use are specially drafted to provide safe, optimal dosing. Regular blood testing is highly recommended both for dosage accuracy and blood level monitoring. Because of the overwhelming evidence connecting low levels of DHEA to age-related factors, Life Extension suggests that all people over age 40 begin DHEA supplementation.
For most people, the starting dose of DHEA is between 15–75 mg, taken in one daily dose. People over age 40 who do not supplement with DHEA usually have serum levels below 200 µg/dL, and many are below 100 µg/dL since an age-related decline generally takes place after the third decade in life.1,16 This product contains 25 mg of regular DHEA and 100 mg of 7-Keto® DHEA per capsule.
DHEA precautions for men
Men with prostate cancer or severe benign prostate disease are advised to avoid DHEA since it can be converted into testosterone (and estrogen). Therefore, men are advised to have a PSA and digital rectal exam before supplementing with DHEA to rule out existing prostate disease.
It is important for men over 40 to have a physician check their PSA and DHEA-S serum levels every six to twelve months. Men should also periodically check their blood levels for free testosterone and estrogen to make sure that DHEA is following a youthful metabolic pathway.
DHEA precautions for women
Women should consider estrogen and testosterone testing when they take their DHEA blood test in order to evaluate DHEA’s effect on their blood levels of these hormones. Women who have been diagnosed with an estrogen-dependent cancer should consult their physicians before beginning DHEA supplementation.
This supplement should be taken in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise program. Individual results are not guaranteed, and results may vary.
